Moving to XML
|
Wait and see: arguments for
-
'It's not ready':
-
Last year this was true. This year the argument is much harder
to make. Almost all major corporate software vendors are now
supporting XML as a data interchange mechanism now; most are
putting huge investment into it.
-
'It may never happen':
-
Some powerful software houses may see it as to their
advantage to hijack and undermine the standardisation process.
-
'What we've got is good enough':
-
For many organisations, the present capabilities of HTML as
enhanced with applets and various proprietary multimedia
plug-ins will continue to fulfill their publishing needs for
some time to come. But what about their data interchange needs?
