Taming Tomcat

Enabling the Manager webapp

• Edit file tomcat-users.xml
  • Debian: /var/lib/tomcat4/conf/tomcat-users.xml
  • Windows: c:\Program Files\Apache Software Foudation\Tomcat 5.5\conf\tomcat-users.xml
• Add line <user name="yourname" password="topsecret" roles="admin,manager"/>

  <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?>
  <tomcat-users>
    <user username="simon" password="secret" roles="admin,manager"/>
  </tomcat-users>
  

• Tomcat 5 you also need to add a line <role rolename="manager"/>
  • (You might as well add the similar line for the admin webapp at the same time
• Restart Tomcat
