• A special format URL describes where the database is.
• Actually, the URL format differs from driver to driver, for example:
  • jdbc:postgresql://gododdin:5432/smeq
  • jdbc:oracle:thin:@gododdin:1521:smeq
  • jdbc:odbc:smeq
